Wow. It’s been a whole while since I have sat down to write one of these. First and foremost, let me say what a blessing it is to have people back in the gym. It was a long, lonely couple of months around 306 without people to converse and enjoy my day with. Thank you for coming back and thank you for supporting us throughout.
In all of the talk of “CoVid”, i heard someone make reference to how this will be a defining event in our lifetime. We have “travel post 9-11” and I think now we will have “life post CoVid”. Whatever life turns out to look like, I am glad fitness is a part of yours! Through all of this I was reminded every day how blessed I am to be as physically able as I am. Not as an “athlete” - just as a human being. Many people can not get out and can not care for themselves. Many rely on others for their day to day. Fact is, if you are a member at 306, you are right there with me being “physically blessed”.
Our health is not something to be taken for granted. If you are a member, you have chosen to make your health a priority. You should be commended for that effort. The science behind exercise and its ties to health is undisputed. Regardless of where we start from, there is not a biomarker that does not start to improve with exercise. Way back on January 27, 2019 I wrote a blog on the “moving the needle”. I made reference to a continuum, or arch, the same as the speedometer in your vehicle. Simply put, 0 is “unhealthy”, the very middle of the arch is “well” and if you floor it and bury the needle, the very other end of it is “fit”. We further we move our needle over towards fit, the bigger the gap and the more buffer we have before that needle starts tipping below the “well” and onto the unhealthy side. So keep that needle on the fit side!
As we get back in to things at 306, we have purposely dialed back on the programming a little bit. Don’t worry, the mastermind #JCAINTRAINED is still cooking up some amazing WODs that I guarantee will kick your butt, but with a little less “oomph” to the kick than usual maybe. We want to start slow. While some you were joining in on the Zoom classes or doing your own workouts through the closure, some of you were not. That’s perfectly ok! You are back at it and will be right back to where you were in no time. We have started to incorporate some dedicated mobility time into our weekly program. While we have, and still, encourage everyone to spend some time in their day doing mobility work, this will give you a couple dedicated sessions each week. Just one example of how we are adapting to getting everyone back in the gym and staying healthy.
Jay, Rebecca and myself spent a lot of stressed hours talking and figuring things out on how to best make things happen moving forward in this “social distancing” world. We are thankful to have all of our great coaches supporting us. We are thankful for our great facility staff who keep things clean and disinfected for all of you. And we are extra thankful for all of you who come in here and prioritize your health! As we move forward figuring things out together, please feel free to reach out to any one of us if you have questions, concerns or comments. We are happy to discuss and we are here for you all.
Like I said to my classes yesterday before touching a barbell for the first time post-closure, “there are a whole lot more days of CrossFit to come!”. We’re happy we get to be here to enjoy them with you!
