Conquer the negative mind

Another thing that I am working hard on is mindset. I have found this year to be incredibly challenging on a number of levels. I don't think that this pandemic and the fallout from it have been easy on anyone. More than ever, we have been bombarded with negativity. From the news, to politics, to racism, to judgment of others and how hard (or not hard) they have it.

Think about a typical day. What is the first thing that you see? If you turn on the news, is it a positive or negative story? Does your spouse, roommate or kids leave the kitchen in a mess on the way out of the house for you to clean up? What does your inner dialog look like? Do you get cut off in traffic? Does a co-worker stop you right away when you see them with a, "you will never believe what happened" story? Is there gossip? The truth is, it is everywhere and it is contagious and so easy to get sucked in to.

So, what can you do? "Don't judge someone with a different disease. Don't expect anyone to be perfect. Don't think that you are perfect". Become an observer in situations and do not participate in the negative talk. Try and offer a positive spin on things. As well, try to surround yourself with uplifting people that bring you up or make you want to be better. We can't get rid of all negativity. Bad things do happen. That is life. People die, get sick, or have horrible things happen to them. The trick is to not fall into a victim mindset. You can feel sad, or mad, but do not let that feeling dictate your life. Do not dwell.
