SAD therapy tip #6
Exercise!! I know that I own a gym and have a basement filled with equipment, but November is HARD. I seriously have to do some big self talk some days. I love training and I also know how good it is for me and how it always makes me feel better BUT when you are depressed or struggling mentally, it trumps all those things.
So, what do I do? I am gentle with myself and I do what I can. Some days, I can train a lot longer, and some days I really can't muster much so I do a restorative yoga practice. I listen to my body and I tell myself that my training is a gift. It is my medicine or my anti-depressant so I have to treat it as such. I always feel better once I get started and usually gain energy as I get further into my training.
Do what works for you and in your day. We have more restrictions at the gym as far as class sizes go, so I can't just "pop in" when it works, so I always have to have a plan B. I run a lot more and I can do intervals if I don't have a lot of time. I can usually adjust the WOD to work with what I have so I can still get a good training session in, even if I couldn't get into a class. Just stay active and do what you can.
