Chalk & Awe - Medals, Provincial Records, and 6 for 6 performances

On October 5, the 306 Weightlifting Club and 306 High Performance Teens hoisted some big weights at St. Mother Teresa School for the 2nd annual Chalk & Awe competition. 15 athletes from 306 took the platform for the first meet of the season, where the team produced a lot of hardware, provincial records, and 6 for 6 wrist bands. The competition had over 60 athletes from all over Saskatchewan and few from Manitoba.

Carter Pavelich broke 3 provincial records:
Men’s Junior 81kg clean & jerk - 148kg (previously set in 2002 at 140kg)
Men’s Junior 81kg total record - 253kg (previously set in 2002 at 252.2kg)
Men’s Senior 81kg clean & jerk - 148kg (previously set in 2022 at 145kg)
Laura Carruthers broke 3 provincial records:
Women’s Senior 81kg snatch - 86kg (previously set in 2020 at 85kg)
Women’s Senior 81kg clean & jerk - 111kg (previously set in 2020 at 102kg)
Women’s Senior 81kg total - 197kg (previously set in 2020 at 187kg)
Janyce Yuzbasheva broke 1 provincial record:
Women’s Masters 45-49 81kg clean & jerk - 61kg (previously set in Feb 2024 at 60kg)
6 for 6
Going 6 for 6 is not an easy feat. We had 8 athletes securing a perfect performance including Carter Pavelich, Daniel Yuzbashev, Niz Corrigan, Liv Mortenson, Laura Carruthers, Nichelle Williams, Kaylan Yuzbasheva, and Janyce Yuzbasheva. There were so many athletes at the meet that went 6 for 6 that they actually ran out of wristbands!
Closing out the session
Out of the 5 sessions at the competition, a 306 athlete closed out the session for 3 out of the 5 sessions. Kathee closed out the first session with a 85kg clean & jerk. Carter closed out his session with his provincial record clean & jerk at 148kg. Laura closed out her session with a new provincial record clean & jerk at 111kg.

Get into the sport
If you are looking to get into the sport of weightlifting, we have some amazing programs to suit your goals:
Youth and Junior Competitive Weightlifting - Coach Jack Nash will lead youth and junior age weightlifters (age 12-20) to prep and train for local competitions in hope of reaching the Jr National level. Coach Jack will lead this group MWF from 4:30pm -6:00pm and will also coach the kids when they enter weightlifting competitions held locally.
Teen High Performance Program - This program is for teens who are interested in becoming the strongest and most explosive version of themselves and compete in the sport Weightlifting at the Canadian Championships and beyond! Click here for more information and registration.
Adult Competitive lifting - Building on our original program, designed to train lifters to compete at all ages in the sport of weightlifting. Coach Nick has successfully received the highest accreditation possible for a weightlifting coach in Canada and he is well poised to deliver another year of exceptional results from our athletes. Schedule is Tuesday and Thursdays 5:00pm - 6:30pm, Saturdays from Noon-2 pm.
Recreational Program - You love to lift, and want to learn how to get stronger safely and in a fun atmosphere. This program is for you! Coach Nick will help you build your strength, learn the basics of weightlifting with no pressure to ever compete. Schedule is Tuesday and Thursdays 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Saturdays from Noon-2 pm.
