We are officially 2 weeks into the New Year. You might find that your rather ambitious attempts at completely turning your life around might be starting to wear off. The New Year is a great time to set big goals, but if you go into it with too much pressure and expectations, you risk burnout and quitting all together.
So, what I find works best is consistency over time. It is the small actions and habits that will add up to the big results that you are looking for. So, instead of saying that you are going to come to the gym 6 days/week, aim for 3 to start. Anything above that will be bonus, but if you aim for 6 and only get in 5 times, you feel like you failed.
At CrossFit, we really take out the hard part of trying to figure out what to do. You just have to show up and the we’ve got the rest. You will have a highly skilled coach ensure that you are moving correctly with the appropriate loading so that you get the maximum benefit of the training.
Dedicating that time to yourself and your fitness will do so much for all aspects of your well-being. It’s true that life gets busy and it can feel really unmotivating to push yourself when it is dark and minus a million degrees outside that all you can do is contemplate all your life decisions that led you to this point.
That being said, time is still going to pass; the sun will rise, the days will go by whether you are sitting on your butt or crushing a WOD. Before you know it, it will be January 2026 and it will either have you thinking “2026 will finally be my year” or “2025 was awesome, I showed up for myself and I am going to keep it going in 2026”.
So, remember, all you have to do is show up, do it for yourself today and your future self. One day at a time, one habit at a time, you will incrementally make yourself happier and healthier. See you at the gym!
