Records Broken at 'Last Chance Qualifyer'

This past weekend 306 had four athletes, Coach Marc Morric, Amy Smith, Brandee Borne and Clint Senko, ttravelled down to Moose Jaw to compete in the Last Chance Powerlifting meet.  Amy, Brandee and Marc would compete in the morning.

Amy had a solid meet going 6 for 9 hitting a 130 kg squat, 75 kg bench and 140 kg dead lift.  She won her weight class and improved her wilks to 392 as well as taking best overall female lifter.

Brandee had a banner day winning her weight class and going 9 for 9 with 135 kg squat, 67.5 kg bench and 135 kg dead lift.  Brandee also qualified for nationals on her opening dead lift and come April is looking to take a run at the national squat record for her category.  Brandee's squat was good enough to secure 3rd spot on the 306 record board.  She also now is the proud owner of 3 provincial records in her category (squat, bench and total).

Coach Marc also won his weight class.  Going into the meet he had his sights set on a few provincial records in the 74 kg weight class and he did not disappoint.   Marc started his day off by hitting 195.5 kg in the squat and securing a new provincial record.  Marc had been training hard on his bench and hit an all time PR.  On Marc's dead lifts we went big 561 pounds big in an attempt to take to total record.  Marc moved the weight with great speed off the floor, but just couldn't quite get it past his knees.

Clint was our only lifter in the afternoon session.  Clint had a strong meet hitting competition bests in his squat and bench and only narrowly missing a competition PR dead lift.  Clint finished second in his weight class.  Expect some exciting things to come from Clint in the new year as he takes a run at achieving a qualifying total.

Honourable mention also goes out to Steph Thompson who on Sunday hit a 360 pound dead lift to take over 3rd on the 306 board.
