Meet our new strength coaches

In my last post, I spoke on the importance of learning from the best.  In continuing with this mantra, I am incredibly proud to announce that Marc Morris and Connor Lutz will be the official 306 strength training coaches.  You can attend either of their classes on either Wednesdays or Sundays, please consult our schedule for the PowerLifting hours.  Please take a quick read at their incredibly impressive bios.

Marc and Connor welcome aboard, we are truly honored to have you both as part of our coaching staff!

Marc Morris BSc PhD (c)

Strength Coach

Marc is a full-blown health enthusiast. As a self-proclaimed polymath, Marc enjoys the relentless self-experimentation of all aspects of fitness.

Marc received an Honours Chemistry (Bio-organic spec.) degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. In 2009, he moved to the Prairies to pursue graduate school in Nutrition at the University of Saskatchewan, where he is currently working on his Ph.D. In academia, Marc's experience ranges from playing "lab rat" as a healthy control to delivering a full university level course as an instructor. His research focuses on elucidating the relationship between diet and chronic intestinal disease.

As a strength athlete, Marc is a nationally-ranked Powerlifter, 2012 Westerns Raw Champion and holds the #1 ranked raw deadlift in the province (by wilks).  His primary objective as a strength coach at 306 is to help all members, at any skill level, become more proficient in the squat, press, and deadlift.

Connor Lutz

Strength Coach

Connor is in the process of finishing his combined B.Sc Kinesiology and B.Ed undergraduate degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. Growing up, Connor played almost any sport you can think of, from curling to volleyball to football, instilling his competitive nature.

Following high school, Connor played both running back and defensive back with the U of S Huskies; however despite his love for football, the off-season became something he looked forward just as much as the start of the season, as it allowed him to focus all his energy on training. Upon completion of his fourth CIS season, Connor is now pursuing a future in Powerlifting.  Connor has been described as obsessed with training, spending every minute of his spare time reading articles or writing training programs.

Connor’s biggest success in Powerlifting, was representing Team Canada at the IPF Classic World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden. He finished 7th overall and earned a silver medal in the bench press as the youngest lifter in his weight class. Other accolades include :

- 13 Provincial records

- 3 unofficial National records

- 3 Commonwealth records

- Top male wilks in Saskatchewan

- 10th best male wilks in Canada

- National Champion

Connor is a perfectionist and every training session leaves something more to be desired. His goal is to push himself to be the best he can be. As a strength coach, he strives to help others achieve their goals in strength and specifically improve the movements of squat, deadlift and bench press.
