Coach's Recap on the First Annual Reebok CrossFit 306 Power Lifting Meet

This past Saturday, Saskatoon Barbell had the pleasure of introducing two of our oldest friends.

"306 this is Powerlifting. Powerlifting, I'd like to you meet your new best friend, Reebok Crossfit 306."

A relationship was formed, two communities united, and from that point we didn't look back. This day featured various feats of strength in the squat, bench press and deadlift. Camaraderie was present throughout the group and was great to see a mix of lifters compete from not only the host gym, 306, but across the city of Saskatoon. The energy in the gym was spectacular. Our day concluded perfectly. in a heavy and loud fashion, with Young Joe Franey pulling an easy 250 kg (551 lb) deadlift. NOTE: Joe is 19 years old.

The top three finalists were as follows:

Viki Cirkvicic with a 280kg total and 298.6 wilks.
Chelsea Sveinbjornson with a 325kg total and 286 wilks.
Stef Hughes with a 237.5kg total and 247.8 wilks.

Matt Allen with a 580kg total and 354.3 wilks.
Mike Skilnick with a 602.5kg total and 352.8 wilks.
Danny Silbernagel with a 505kg total and 347.2 wilks

Our winners went home with some great lifting gear from Inner Strength Products and paid memberships to the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU).

Congrats to all of our participants: Bruce Lyle, Jeremy Cardinal-Schultz, Dwayne Cronje, Stephane Gautreau, Jason Joyal, Matt Allen, John King, Joe Franey, Mike Skilnick, Ben Sheard, Ryan Hoffer, Stef Hughes, Lana Price-Wright, Chelsea Sveinbjornson, Viki Cirkvicic, Brandy Sokoloski, Adam Acovski, Kent Brown, William Trelnuk and Danny Silbernagel.

You all showed great potential in the sport of Powerlifting and should be very proud of yourselves. Not many will accomplish this feat. We have a small number of participants in Powerlifting compared to other sports for one main reason: because it is challenging and requires extensive dedication and preparation.

Special thanks to Jason and Rebecca at 306 for hosting, all of our volunteers from Saskatoon Barbell (spotters, loaders, organizers at the desk, MC Stu Christensen) and Rhaea Stinn of Inner Strength Products.
